| Memory Verse: “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; And unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:28 We have run across this text in Daniel 8:14 “Unto two thousand and three hundred days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” I told you we would look at it more. We looked at the sanctuary that was built by Moses and Israel. We also have looked at the service of the earthly sanctuary, and how it was used until Christ died on the cross. Then, the veil to the Temple was torn from top to bottom. Signifying there was no longer a need for the sanctuary service. Christ the Lamb, was made into a sacrifice for us. The earthly sanctuary was all symbolic of Christ, the Lamb of God who died for my guilt. The earthly service was to teach us how the Heavenly service works. We will look at the Heavenly service and the work that goes on there. We need to understand more about the ‘cleansing of the sanctuary.” We learned it was also called the Day of Atonement. 1. Who is our High Priest in Heaven? Hebrews 4:14 “Seeing then that we have a ________ _________ ____________, that is passed into the __________ _____________ the _________ of , Let us hold fast our profession.” 2. What does He do for us as our High Priest? Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to ________ ___________ to the uttermost that come_________ _______ by ________, seeing he ever liveth to _______ ________________ for them.” 3. In the earthly sanctuary there was a daily offering made for a sacrifice. But that is not needed in Heaven. What do we learn about our sacrifice? Hebrews 7:27 “Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he _________ ________, when he __________ ___________ _______.” Our sacrifice, the Lamb, Son of God, was offered once, for all. 4. Is there a need for a mediator, or someone to go between you and Jesus? 1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is ______ _______, and _______ __________ between God and men, the man ______________;” There is only one way to God and that is through Jesus Christ. The little horn ( Daniel 7) power brought in priesthood, where by the people at times, paid for their confession of sins to the priest. They encourage the people to confess sin to the priest instead of going to Christ, as we are told to do in the Bible. We need to put Christ back in his place, as our only mediator. The sanctuary needs to be cleansed of things that are not right. 5. We are to pray in whose name? John 14:13 (Note these are Jesus’ Words) “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will ______ ____ that the ___________ may be ______________ in the ____________.” Verse 14 “ ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. Verse 15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments. There are stipulations to answered prayer. Love Jesus, if you love Jesus you will want to keep His commandments. If you do these things, what does He say, He will do for us? John 14:16 “And I will pray the ____________, and he shall _________ you another ________________,that he may abide with you for ever;” Jesus will pray to the Father for us. He will send The Comforter or The Holy Spirit, to be with us and help us in what ever our needs be. 6. In the earthly sanctuary, it was The Blood of The Lamb offered for Sin. Whose blood is offered in the Heavenly Sanctuary? Hebrews 9:14 (Read 12, 13) “How much more shall the ____________ _____ ________ who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” 7. Where did Christ go when He went back to Heaven? Hebrews 9:24 “For Christ is not entered into the ________ __________ made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:” He went to the Holy Place, the true sanctuary to appear (Last Part) Hebrews 9:24 “In the ______ of ______for us.” Forty days after Christs’ resurrection (Acts 1:3) we know He went back to Heaven. He began the work of a High Priest in the Heavenly sanctuary. He, The Lamb, offers His Blood in our behalf. He intercedes for us. When we confess our sins, to him in Prayer, asking for forgiveness for our sins; we must come trusting in His Blood to cleanse us from sin. This was represented as the Daily Sacrifice in the sanctuary, in the wilderness. We know that from what we have already studied, the sin was transferred to The Lamb from the sinner, then once a year the sanctuary was cleansed of all the sins that had been gathering in the sanctuary all year long. Once a year, the sin was removed on The Day of Atonement. 8. The Day of Atonement took place at what time of year? Leviticus 16:29 “And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the ______ ___________ on the ________ __________ of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:” 9. What was the reason for The Day of Atonement? Leviticus 16:30, 33, 34 “For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD. It shall be a Sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever. And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest’s office in his father’s stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments: And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation. And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an ________________ for the children of Israel for _________ ___________ ___________ once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.” 10. We learned already there were two goats used that day. One was The Lord’s Goat the other was to be used as “The Sin Goat” or “Scapegoat”. What was done with The Blood of The Lord’s Goat? Leviticus 16:15, 16. “Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and _________ it upon the ________ ___________, and ___________ the ____________ _____________: And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.” We need this little review; it will help us understand what happened next. The Day of Atonement was on the tenth day of the seventh month. This you need to remember. It will help you in the next study. They had to be prepared for this before the day arrived. All the camp of Israel was gathered there that day. They drew lots over the two goats, one became The Lord’s Goat, to be sacrificed and The Blood taken into the Most Holy place and sprinkled on The Mercy Seat. After the sanctuary was cleansed and all was made right ( read verse 20 ). Then The High Priest put his hands on the head of “The Live Goat” or “The Scapegoat”. Transferring all the sins from the sanctuary to “The Scapegoat” Then he was lead into the wilderness and turned loose. He did not ever return to camp again. Jesus paid the debt for all my sins, He died in my place. Not just for me, but for all. Satan or “The Scapegoat” will be punished as the instigator of sin. Only on goat was slain. Only Jesus, The Son of God, can pay for my sins. He is represented by The Lamb, that was slain. Satan will be destroyed at the end of the world. 11. If someone had not confessed their sin and prepared for The Day of Atonement, what happened to them? Leviticus 23:29. “For whatsoever soul ii be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be _______ _______ from _______ his _________.” If the heat was right, and all sins confessed, they did not get put out of The Family of God. But Judgment Day had come for all that had not prepared their hearts. They were cut off from the people of Israel. The lesson of the two goats: Christ’s Goat was killed and The Blood offered for a sacrifice to cleanse the sanctuary of Sins. Christ suffered, Himself, for the guilty. His Blood was shed for us. Only one goat was slain, only Jesus could pay for our sins. “The Scape Goat” had the sins from the sanctuary placed on him and he was lead away into the wilderness. When Jesus comes, he will place the sins in the Heavenly sanctuary on Satan’s heat to suffer punishment as the instigator of sin 12. After Christs’ Death and Resurrection, He was taken to Heaven. He is there to officiating as our High Priest. The High Pries on earth was a symbol of our High Priest in Heaven, which is Jesus. Hebrews 4:14- 16 Verse 14 “Seeing then that we have a great ________ __________, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.” Verse 15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; hut was in like as we are, vet Verse 16 “Let ______ therefore come ___________ unto the of that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to ___________ in __________ of_____________ 13. Christ entered Heaven, to appear in the presence of God. Who did he do this for? Hebrews 9:24 “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for _______________:” 14. He was appointed once to then what would come? Hebrews 9:27. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the ____________:” The next lesson is on the Twenty Three Hundred Years. Soon we will look at The Judgment.
Hebrews 4:11 – 16 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
